School Policies
Student Attendance Policy
Per Louisiana law, students must attend 167 days of school. This limits a student to only missing 12 unexcused days of the school year (6 unexcused each semester). Please be mindful that tardies count in this calculation. If a student is not present in class, they are not meeting the objectives and standards set forth by the Louisiana Department of Education.
In order to catch and make up for absences, students will fail based on quarterly attendance. Students will not be allowed to miss more than 6 unexcused absences per nine weeks. Students who do not make up attendance will fail the course for that nine weeks and be prevented from school trips and travel. Below are the Saturday Schools planned:
First Quarter
- September 23
- October 28 (specifically for students that missed the 2 for the first quarter and received an F).
Second Quarter
- December 2
- December 16
Semester 1
- January 27
Third Quarter
- March 2
- March 9
- April 27 (specifically for students that missed the 2 for the first quarter and received an F).
Fourth Quarter
- May 4
- May 11
- May 18
Attendance Recovery Days
- May 22
- May 23
The goal is for students to attend and recover their unexcused absences before the end of the nine weeks. If they do not, they will receive an F for the nine weeks. In order to change their grade back, the parent/guardian will have to meet with administration/counselor after the student served their attendance recovery through Saturday School. Students with excessive absences will be reported to truancy court.
Note: Doctor’s Notes are turned into the front office. Students can turn in two parent notes per semester (a parent note can cover 2 consecutive absences).
Each week, we will pull a report for students that have 6 unexcused absences or more. Those students will receive a message about attending Saturday School BEFORE the end of the nine weeks. It is the student’s responsibility to attend those Saturday School before the end of the quarter in order to prevent a failing grade. The front office will send an email to parents and students, but teachers should also reach out to students and parents about absences. There will be a Google Sheet that will be updated weekly.
